How To Claim Your North Carolina Fantasy Sports & Sportsbook Bonus
See below for details on how to claim your North Carolina fantasy sports and/or sports betting bonus.
North Carolina Fantasy Sports & Sports Betting Overview
1) Is North Carolina Sports Betting Legal?
Yes. Sports betting was signed into law in June of 2023 and launched on March 11, 2024. Pre-registration offers will be live starting March 1.
2) Is Online North Carolina Sports Betting Legal?
Yes. When North Carolina sports betting passed through legislation and was made legal, online sports betting was the subject of the bill. North Carolina law now allows for 12 online sportsbook licenses, and so far eight have been approved. Thus, online sports betting is legal in North Carolina as of March 11, 2024.
3) What Promo Codes/Deposit Bonuses Are Available for Me and How Can I Use Them?
There are four sportsbooks offering North Carolina bonuses:Â
- Bet365
- BetMGM
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
Bet365 North Carolina Bonus Codes
You have two options for bet365 North Carolina bonuses: First bet safety net up to $1,000 OR bet $5 and get $150 in bonus bets.
First Bet Safety Net:Â Place a first bet up to $1,000, and if it loses, bet365 will pay it back in the form of bonus bets.
Bet and Get:Â Place a first bet of at least $5 and you will instantly get $150 in bonus bets.
BetMGM North Carolina Bonus Code
Make an initial deposit of at least $10, and you will get up to $1,500 in bonus bets paid back if your first bet doesn't win.
DraftKings North Carolina Promo Code
Simply deposit a minimum of $5 upon signup and place a bet of at least $5. DraftKings will then give you $200 in bonus bets!
Additionally, DraftKings has two promotions for ALL North Carolina users:
- North Carolina UFC 300 No Sweat Parlay
- North Carolina Hurricanes Early Win Playoffs Promotion
UFC 300 No Sweat Parlay
Starting Friday, April 12, and running to UFC 300 on April 13, you can get a no-sweat bet for UFC 300. You will receive one no-sweat bet token that you can use on any UFC parlay (parlay, same-game parlay or SGP+). Now if your first bet loses, DraftKings will reimburse you in the form of bonus bets. Your no-sweat bet token will expire at the end of the final UFC 300 fight.
Hurricanes Early Win Playoffs Promotion
Starting with the Hurricanes' first game of the NHL playoffs, you can win your Carolina moneyline bet if the Hurricanes get up two-plus goals at any point. This promotion will run for every Hurricanes playoff game until they are eliminated, so you have (hopefully) a ton of chances to hit an early moneyline win. You will receive one early win token that you can use on any pregame moneyline for a Hurricanes playoff game.
FanDuel North Carolina Promo Code
Make a first-time deposit of $10 or more, and place a first real-money wager on any FanDuel Sportsbook market. You will then receive $200 in bonus bets.
4) What Sportsbooks and Online Sports Betting Apps Are Available in North Carolina?
At this time, we know of eight sportsbooks that will be active in North Carolina once sports betting goes live. North Carolina legislation will allow for as many as 12 licenses, so stay tuned for any more operators. For now, these are the sportsbooks confirmed:
- Bet365
- BetMGM
- Caesars
- DraftKings
- ESPN BET
- Fanatics
- FanDuel
- Underdog Sports (Underdog Fantasy's sportsbook launch)
These sportsbooks will be required to pay 18% of their gross adjusted revenue in taxes, and taxes will go towards a number of athletic and gambling education organizations in the state.
5) Can I Bet on Sports in Person in North Carolina?
Yes. Retail sports betting is already live in North Carolina at three locations:
- Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort (Cherokee, N.C.)
- Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino (Murphy, N.C.)
- Catawba Two Kings Casino (Kings Mountain, N.C.)
6) What are the Most Common Types of Sports Bets Can I Make in North Carolina?
Spread Bet
Spread bets are bets where you pick a side of a game but the two sides are given even chances of winning by forcing one team to win by a certain number of points. For example, here are lines for a game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Golden State Warriors.
Charlotte Hornets +13.5 (-110), moneyline +600
at Golden State Warriors -13.5 (-110), moneyline -900
The Warriors are favored by 13.5 points in this example. This means that if you bet the Hornets, you are getting 13.5 points, so if the Hornets win the game or lose by 13 points or less, you will win the bet because of your 13.5-point cushion. On the other side, when you are laying 13.5 points as the favorite, you need the Warriors to win by 14 or more to win the bet.
Final Score: Warriors 121, Hornets 110. Hornets cover even though the Warriors won the game because the +13.5 point spread is enough to cover an 11-point defeat.
Moneyline Bet
The moneyline is a bet where there is no spread; you are just picking the winner of the game. In the example above, the Hornets moneyline is +600, which means that for every $100 wagered, you win $600 if the Hornets win the game outright. They receive the plus side of the moneyline since they are the underdog, and picking them rewards you with nice odds since they are projected to likely lose the game. On the flip side, if you bet the Warriors moneyline at -900, you have to bet $900 to win $100. They are the favorites, so if you decide to bet the moneyline instead of the point spread, you are forced to bet additional money to win $100.
In the example above, the Warriors moneyline would be the winner, as they won the game outright. The spread is irrelevant for a moneyline wager.
Over/Under
This is a bet wagering on how many total combined points will be scored in a game. For example, the Hornets-Warriors game has an over/under of 228.5 points, which means that the oddsmakers are projecting a combined points total of 228.5 between the two teams. If you think the teams are going to score more than 228.5 points total, you bet the over, and conversely, if you think it’s going to be a defensive struggle, you can bet the under hoping that the total points scored equals 228 points or less.
The final score being 121-110 means the total is 231, so the over is the winner.
Parlay
A parlay is a bet where you combine multiple bets into one bet, and you get increased odds since it is harder to win. If you do a three-team parlay, you select three different teams from three different games, and if you win all three of the bets, you hit your parlay for longshot odds (6-1, so $100 to win $600). Going 0-for-3, 1-for-3 or 2-for 3 is all the same, and you lose the parlay bet. It’s all or nothing, which makes them tough to hit.
7) What are the Most Popular Sports Teams/Players to Bet on in North Carolina?
North Carolina has a ton of sports and teams to choose from, including three major professional franchises and a rabid -- and we mean rabid -- fandom for a handful of college teams.
College basketball is especially popular in North Carolina, and the rivalries are incredibly fierce. There are four teams in the ACC, and all have gone through periods of being titans of college basketball: Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. Duke and North Carolina especially are long-reigning blue-chip programs and make up one of the most heated rivalries in all of college sports.
Those four schools also have football teams that have had varying levels of recent success -- North Carolina has been the most consistent of late, but all have been bowl-contending teams at one time or another in the last 20-odd years.
Professional teams in North Carolina are also fairly popular, though only one of the three Big 4 sports franchises has experienced recent success: The Carolina Hurricanes, who also have the state's only Big 4 championship (2006). That said, the Panthers are probably the most popular team, and the Hornets have some exciting young players as well. The Panthers and Hornets are based in Charlotte and the Hurricanes in Raleigh.Â
