Masters DFS Picks: Top Values for The Masters (2024)

The wait is over, and the golf world takes center stage this week with the Masters on the schedule. The first major of the season to me is the most well-known and with so many storylines we shouldn’t be short on drama. It’s why we’re here to talk top values in our Masters DFS picks column, including a key look at Sergio Garcia of all talent.

89 players descend upon Augusta looking for a career defining win and a major on the resume. For DFS purposes it’s one of the more unique player pools given the LIV players and the fact former Masters winners get the option of playing. This creates a difficult situation for value and that’s what we’ll be deeper diving here.

Masters DFS Picks & Top Values

PGA DFS: The Masters Tournament Preview

Augusta National needs no introduction as it’s the pinnacle of the golf season. The only major that isn’t a rotation, so players have plenty of experience here depending on their age. The par 72 is like most, with par 5’s golfers need to score on but danger lurking around every corner. The greens are lightning fast, and the slopes create around the green shots you don’t see anywhere else. Course history does seem to be a stronger correlation here than at other venues; which could be for a ton of different reasons given the stakes of the week. Another thing to monitor is the weather with storms brewing and that could easily impact what type of skillset we want this week.

We get all the world’s best with the LIV guys back in the fold. Scottie Scheffler is still the man to beat, but seeing Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and several other big names brings us back to when the tour was unified. With a smaller field, we have top 50 and ties finding the weekend and getting all six through the cut is Step 1 to success. In order to do that we need to identify some of the salary savers that we can attack at the end of our lineups in order to free up some salary. Here are a few names that I have my eye on as value plays for the Masters.

Masters DFS Picks: Top Values

Justin Rose

Masters DFS Salary

DraftKings: $7,200
FanDuel:
$8,900

One major factor at Augusta is experience and Justin Rose has more than enough of that around this layout. The Englishman has done everything but win here with a pair of runner ups, numerous top 10’s and basically two decades of experience. We know Rose can gut it out in difficult conditions if that’s what we get, so uncertainty with the weather actually helps him.

What does concern me is where his game is at, with pretty poor form heading into Augusta. Rose’s irons are off right now and although we’ve seen him flip that switch it’s a little unnerving to be on shaky ball striking.

Still, this is a player who knows what it takes to compete at majors, was 16th here last year, and has a price point that allows him to be one of the last guys into your lineup. Rose is in the pool for me this week and with an uptick in ball striking he should sail through the cut into a quality result.

Sergio Garcia

DFS Salary

DraftKings: $6,800
FanDuel:
$8,300

One of the many LIV guys in the field hard to weigh. Like Rose, we have a guy with decades of experience around Augusta and that course knowledge can be a huge asset this week. I already mentioned the tough to quantify recent form, but Garcia was runner-up at LIV Miami last time out, so the game is showing some promise.

Garcia is sub-$7,000, and that is a very appealing target given the weakness of the range.

The biggest concern has to be that post his dramatic playoff win over Rose he has been terrible here with four missed cuts in the last five years. Still, given some potential form, the driving abilities and the fact the range is weak, Garcia is one of the playable LIV guys.

Thorbjorn Olesen

DFS Salary

DraftKings: $6,500
FanDuel:
$8,100

Now we are getting really down there to the mid-$6,000 range and a major salary relief price point. The risk that comes with digging this low is immense, but the reward is being able to really attack the top tier range with a few guys in lineups. Olesen is a fascinating guy to evaluate on several fronts, the first one being his history at Augusta. He is 3-for-3 in made cuts including a top-10 but the starts are sporadic spanning a full decade. On one hand, it’s great that this isn’t his first go around at the tournament, but results from that long ago are hard to really consider as actionable.

In more recent history we do have some encouraging signs as Olesen broke a three-missed-cut streak with a 14th at Valero. The putter at times does that heavy lifting, but that short game can and will translate to Augusta if he can continue to gain. Off the tee can be another asset to his game, and I’ve always been prone to attack an off-tee/putter combo, as it’s one of the more volatile skillsets you can have. I wouldn’t go near Thorbjorn in smaller fields, but for a large-field tournament this is the type of player that can transform a lineup.
