NFL DFS MNF Contrarian Captain: Bills DST
Stokastic’s Captain Optimal %
DraftKings: 4.1%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $4,600
Unlike most of the recent primetime Showdown slates we’ve had, neither the Bills nor the Jets are loaded with offensive weapons. Buffalo starts and ends with Josh Allen, and most of the Bills’ playmakers only look desirable because Allen is their quarterback.
The Jets, on the other hand, have two dynamic skill position players in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, but even with Aaron Rodgers behind center, New York’s offense has barely shown any life this season. Perhaps the Jets will show some spark tonight with former head coach Robert Saleh fired and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett no longer calling plays, but in all likelihood, they are the same exact team we’ve seen through the first five weeks.
With offense projected to be at a bit of a premium in a game with a total of 41.5 points, defense and kickers are that much more viable on Showdown slates. While kickers have been frequently highlighted in this article, Buffalo’s DST is the top contrarian Captain play on DraftKings tonight. Both Stokastic’s Top Showdown Plays Tool and Stokastic’s Sims are high on the Bills in this spot, and at only $4,600 with minimal ownership on DraftKings, the Bills make a lot of sense.
Though Buffalo’s defense only projects to be optimal as a Captain 4.1% of the time this slate plays out, the field still isn’t getting to it enough, with only 2.2% of lineups expected to Captain it. Stokastic’s Sims tell a similar story, as the Bills are showing up in the Captain slot in 8.8% of lineups, as illustrated below.

NFL DFS MNF Contrarian Utility Pick: Greg Zuerlein
Stokastic’s Utility Optimal %
DraftKings: 29.2%
Ownership Projection
DraftKings: 24.8%
Sticking with the defense and special teams trend, Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein also stands out as a great leverage play per Stokastic’s Sims. Though he comes into Week 6 averaging only 5.6 DraftKings points per game, Zuerlein has a long history of being one of the best legs in football, and in a game expected to be on the lower-scoring side, he’s popping as a contrarian play in tournaments.
With newly minted Jets head coach Jeff Ulbrich stripping play-calling duties from Hackett and declaring that he wants to run the ball more, it’s not unreasonable to expect the offense to look at least slightly better tonight. Players are surely feeling a sense of urgency with Saleh canned, and this game is extremely important in the AFC East. That said, while the Jets might move the ball with more efficiency tonight, it’s still unlikely to lead to multiple trips to the end zone. Rather, I expect plenty of opportunities for Zuerlein in a game that should be tight and contested throughout.
Zuerlein is projected to be optimal as a Utility play 29.2% of the time this slate plays out on DraftKings. However, only 24.8% of lineups are currently projected to roster him.
