The UFC is set to deliver another thrilling card, this one from the Las Vegas Sphere. If you haven’t heard about the Sphere, well, you’re in for a treat – it’s a unique venue that the UFC should be able to use to deliver some wild visuals. That said, the card is more interesting than the venue, so let’s start digging into the UFC 306 DFS slate. Fight Preview: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Alexa Grasso
The upcoming UFC 306 trilogy bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Alexa Grasso promises to be a compelling showdown for the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship. Both fighters offer different dynamics for MMA DFS players.
This is their third meeting, with Grasso winning the first fight by submission and the second ending in a controversial split draw. Grasso enters the bout priced at $8,300 on DraftKings, while Shevchenko comes in at $7,900.
Shevchenko has been the more consistent “minutes winner” in their previous fights, appearing to dominate most of the rounds. However, her decline is becoming apparent, especially as she approaches 36 years of age. Her struggles against Taila Santos and subsequent performance against Grasso have shown a slight dip in her once-dominant skill set. Adding to concerns, Shevchenko is coming off surgery and a layoff, which could further affect her performance.
Grasso, at 31, is hitting her prime and continues to improve. Her ability to capitalize on critical moments, like her submission victory in their first encounter, makes her a dangerous DFS play. The age and momentum difference favor Grasso, and many analysts are leaning toward her as the better pick for UFC 306.
Shevchenko still has the potential to win rounds, but Grasso’s youth and upward trajectory make her a strong candidate for those looking to diversify their lineups. As a result, she is on plenty of my highest-ROI lineups in our MMA DFS Sims.
Fight Preview: Daniel Zellhuber vs. Esteban Ribovics
Daniel Zellhuber stands out as a strong pick for MMA DFS players, particularly due to his physical advantages and recent performances. Zellhuber boasts an 8-inch reach advantage, with a 77-inch reach compared to Ribovics’ 69-inch reach, which will likely make it difficult for Ribovics to close the distance and land effective strikes. Zellhuber’s ability to use his range and his continuously improving striking make him a solid choice.
Zellhuber has shown steady progress in the UFC, rebounding from a lackluster debut loss to Trey Ogden with impressive performances against tough opponents like Lando Vannata and Francisco Prado. His striking volume, as evidenced by his 120 significant strikes landed against Prado, demonstrates his capacity for high output, which is crucial in DFS. Although Ribovics also brings a high pace, landing 6.2 significant strikes per minute, the reach and size disparity could limit his ability to effectively pressure Zellhuber.
From a DFS perspective, Zellhuber is an appealing option at his $9,000 salary. He is projected for only 27% ownership, making him a valuable pivot for those looking to differentiate their lineups from the higher-owned Raul Rosas Jr., who comes in at $9,700 and has over 40% projected ownership. With fewer underdog options to confidently back on the card, targeting Zellhuber as a slightly cheaper fighter with lower ownership could be a strategic play.
Overall, Zellhuber is favored to win, likely by decision, due to his reach advantage, striking volume, and Ribovics’ potential struggles to close the distance. DFS players should consider going overweight on Zellhuber to capitalize on his potential output and lower ownership relative to Rosas.
