Opportunity is the name of the game when playing DFS. A player can’t score fantasy points unless they have the opportunity to score. In NBA DFS, there is an easy way to try and predict which players will have more chances to rack up fantasy points than others. When gauging a player’s chance at opportunity, we want to look at their game environment. Any game that is above a 225 total is a great place to start, as those games are more likely to have efficient offense versus mediocre defense. Let’s see tonight’s top two spots that meet these criteria and should be popular NBA DFS game environments among the field.
Today’s Top NBA DFS Game Environments (March 17)
Boston Celtics at Washington Wizards
Total: 228.5
Despite the Celtics being without Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis tonight, they are still 13-point favorites on the road facing the worst team in the NBA, the 11-56 Washington Wizards. The Wizards are a great friend of this article, with them being a daily feature due to their last-ranked defense and fastest pace in the NBA.
Jayson Tatum at $10,000 stands out as the best spend-up option on the slate with the absence of Brown and Porzingis, as Tatum has a 37% usage rate without those two. Tatum’s projections are near perfect today, with him being projected for 58 DraftKings points, a 66% boom chance and a 59% chance at being optimal, both the highest out of any player on the slate. Payton Pritchard at $4,600 is another player that projects great and will more than likely draw the start with Derrick White being sidelined by injury. Pritchard is projected for 23 DraftKings points in 28 minutes facing the 28th-worst defense against point guards. Tatum and Pritchard will be the first place to start when building lineups tonight.
The Wizards have some interesting pieces that can be used as a run-back, with Celtics drawing heavy popularity tonight. Kyle Kuzma at $8,400 is projected for 43 DraftKings points, a 28% boom chance and a 25% chance at being optimal. This is considered a tough matchup for the Wizards as a whole, but there are limited options on this four-game slate and Washington’s ownership is fairly low. Kuzma is only projected for 15% ownership and is worth a shot in GPPs. Jordan Poole at $6,300 is another great option from this team, projected for 19% ownership and a 25% chance at being optimal. Poole could be looking at a greenlight-style game tonight with Tyus Jones ruled out and Deni Avdija doubtful for this contest, both players who have more than a 15% usage rate on the season. Poole is projected to score 32 DraftKings points in 31 minutes, and he has a clear path to go higher on both of those numbers.
