Whether the Minnesota Timberwolves stay alive or suffer the gentlemen’s sweep at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks is going to depend on one person. The Mavs look to close the door on the series as the Boston Celtics await the winner, with Dallas relying on two people: Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The Timberwolves will ask Anthony Edwards to carry the load once again, hoping for another strong performance from Karl-Anthony Towns. Mike Conley M/L Than 20.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists
The Timberwolves need Mike Conley. They needed him in losses and certainly benefited from him in Game 4’s victory. There’s been an increase in his performance throughout this series that helped correlate with Minnesota’s first win. After a weak scoring effort in Game 1, Conley has bounced back, forcing the Mavs to guard him instead of sagging to help elsewhere. He just dropped 14 on Dallas despite going 1-for-4 from 3, an area that was a strength in the two games prior. It’s not a large sample, but it’s consistent with how the games and ultimately the series have flowed.
We focus primarily on points here for the points + rebounds + assists play simply because it’s the anchor. We are banking on Conley maintaining his threat as a secondary or tertiary scorer on the floor. Getting to 14-plus points will be plenty to assure that, between assists and rebounds, Conley is live to pass the above projection. That’s the most likely scenario in a scene that sees Conley still facilitating, even grabbing three-plus rebounds to add to his total.

Daniel Gafford M/L Than 6.5 Rebounds
Dallas is getting more from Daniel Gafford on the floor, which translates to more on the glass. He comes off an eight-board night, but more importantly, he snatched six on the offensive glass. It’s an area we’ve seen him dominate when passing the above 6.5-rebound number. In Game 1 and 4, Gafford cleared the 6.5 total with nine combined offensive rebounds. That’s the area we want to focus on for tonight’s game, as he needs to be able to force his way on the offensive glass.
There is a small edge here with the implied Sleeper odds sitting at -106, the same as the true odds. Even with them being the same number, we have a 0.2% edge, meaning it’s still +EV. Gafford comes off a series-high 31 minutes and should see a similar pattern of increased minutes, especially with Dereck Lively II possibly out — he’s currently a game time decision.
