Sleeper Fantasy Predictions Today: Mixing Up Some MLB & NHL Action (June 13)

The good news, unfortunately, stopped with our correct prediction about Jrue Holiday regressing in a certain category. The reality hit when Maxi Kleber was unable to score, thus killing our play. We are back with plenty of action tonight on the diamond for a massive Sleeper entry. The day is spread out across Major League Baseball, so we will target the later action, with a little help from our pick’em tool. Here are the top MLB Sleeper predictions plus a pick on sale in the NHL Stanley Cup Final!

Cody Bellinger M/L Than 1.5 Total Bases

We have a low total in this Cubs-Rays game that Tampa is graciously hosting. Cody Bellinger should fit right into that game script with two competent pitchers on the mound. The one we care about is primarily on the Rays side, as Bellinger will deal with Taj Bradley and that 29.8% strikeout rate. It’s one of the few things Bradley is doing well this year, but it’s a direct shot across the plate to deal with, as Bellinger isn’t hitting the ball efficiently at all. There’s little advantage for either side in the direct strikeout department, so Bellinger will have to earn some bases tonight.

We have a slight edge against the market thanks to our pick’em tool. While the true odds are -160 for less than 1.5 total bases, we get it at implied odds of -159. It’s a small +EV edge, but an edge regardless. Add how Bellinger is struggling to make consistent contact against a pitcher who is going to attack the zone, and we have a strong recipe for profit.

Sleeper Prediction: Cody Bellinger LESS Than 1.5 Total Bases

Aaron Nola M/L Than 5.5 Strikeouts

We just saw this similar script play out two games ago with Zack Wheeler. The Phillies remain in Boston tonight and send Aaron Nola to the hill. While he stands a good chance of cruising through the majority of this lineup, it won’t come as a result of striking Red Sox batters out, at least at a high enough clip to hit six strikeouts. It might seem like a lower number for a pitcher of Nola’s talents, but he’s pitching well with a 23% strikeout rate — not bad but certainly not dominant. He’s going to need another team to offer up some bad swings in order to activate a higher strikeout performance, and Boston may not give that up.

The Red Sox have a few everyday players that are striking out but not enough for Nola to take advantage. The Phillies starter won’t have as much issue pitching to contact earlier in the game, especially getting out of any jams. We should see a confident outing from Nola, as the Phillies would love to give some of the bullpen the night off, but even pitching deeper into the game won’t change the nature of his opponent. Take less than 5.5 strikeouts.

Sleeper Prediction: Aaron Nola LESS than 5.5 Strikeouts
