Triston McKenzie M/L Than 4.5 Strikeouts
The talk of this game between the visiting Royals and host Guardians is just when the wheels will fall off of the Seth Lugo train. Triston McKenzie is about as under the radar — or at least focus — as it gets. The Royals have responded in kind whenever Lugo has dealt on the hill, as they are expected once again — Lugo has gone at least into the fifth inning in all of his 11 starts. The issue here for McKenzie getting at least five strikeouts is time more than anything else. We simply don’t buy the McKenzie stock of him lasting in this game long enough to hit that strikeout mark.
Be it Lugo or McKenzie, both pitchers factor heavily into this play. First, the guy actually throwing the ball for Cleveland hasn’t been great over his last two starts. McKenzie is on the hook for seven total runs over his last two starts, giving up five homers in the process. One game was in Coors Field, but the other (at home against the Mets) was a bomb of a start. The 21.9% strikeout rate isn’t enough to battle through this Royals lineup.
Sleeper Prediction: Triston McKenzie Less Than 4.5 Strikeouts

Cristopher Sanchez M/L Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Things are not slowing down for the Philadelphia Phillies despite having some shakeups in their rotation. Ranger Suarez exited with injury, Taijuan Walker let everyone down, then Zack Wheeler brought everyone back. Enter Cristopher Sanchez tonight at home against a Brewers team that refuses to start an actual starter in this series. The Brewers are only 5.5 games behind the Phillies, have an 18-14 road record (not bad, not bad) and a +61 run differential. This is far from a bottom feeder. Unfortunately, they will be down early in a game where Sanchez can relax and get back to striking out batters.
The Phillies will do all they can to let Sanchez throw deeper into this game, whether due to their concerns with health in the starting rotation and/or not trying to tax a bullpen. Sanchez has shined in the strikeout market, especially at home, with some outlier struggles happening on the road. Given the expected run support from the Phillies bats, especially as the weather warms up during the day, Sanchez could be into the seventh inning with a comfortable lead.
Sleeper Prediction: Cristopher Sanchez More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
