Marcus Stroman M/L Than 4.5 Hits Allowed
A great matchup lies ahead for the Yankees as they host Logan Gilbert and the Seattle Mariners. Gilbert has been stellar at home, but his road splits are nothing to write back west about — tonight should be no exception. The Mariners starter has struggled over his past two outings, the complete opposite of what we’ve seen from Marcus Stroman. He is starting to get going, with his best stuff coming in his most recent start.
Stroman should be comfortable pitching with a lead and to contact. The Mariners are struggling against righties, where the Yankees thrive, another mismatch in this pitching matchup. Stroman faces a bottom-third offense against righties, where the Mariners struggle to generate much scoring in general. We look for the Yankees to cruise tonight both on the mound and at the plate, with Stroman pitching deeper into this game.
Sleeper Prediction: Marcus Stroman LESS Than 4.5 Hits Allowed
Reese Olson M/L Than 4.5 Strikeouts
A road start against the Royals is only half the battle for Reese Olson, who has seen little balance at the plate to match his overall numbers. While the good news for Detroit is it faces a weak Michael Wacha, Olson doesn’t have much edge in the strikeout market against the Tigers. We’ve seen success come from Olson due to successfully pitching to contact, inducing ground ball outs at a better clip than strikeouts. With a 21.7% strikeout rate, it’s going to be tough for Olson to generate strikeouts in general, let alone against Kansas City.
The Royals aren’t offering up many strikeouts and have few holes in their lineup. A tough out at home, Kansas City should battle at the plate, welcoming opportunities to make contact. A victory can come in multiple ways, including a gem from Olson where he still stays below this number. He just fanned eight Royals at the end of April, but that game was at home and we still have this total at 4.5 overall. Olson broke through a tough situation one time; we won’t take that bet again, not in Kansas City.
Sleeper Prediction: Reese Olson LESS Than 4.5 Strikeouts
