PGA DFS Picks: Top Values for the Travelers Championship (2024)

The PGA Tour season rolls on after an exhilarating US Open last week. The drama, storylines and narratives are set to intensify following Rory McIlroy’s late meltdown and Bryson DeChambeau winning his second US Open title. The Travelers Championship is another premier event, and despite not being a full field, there are still ample opportunities to profit. Although McIlroy has withdrawn, the field remains strong, making lineup construction intriguing here in Connecticut. Let’s go over the best value PGA DFS picks for the 2024 Travelers Championship.

PGA DFS: Travelers Championship Tournament Preview

The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands, the usual venue for the Travelers Championship, providing a clear understanding of the skill set and strategy needed to win here. This course features a diverse mix of holes, offering players various ways to approach their game.

Distance isn’t a crucial factor since it’s one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour. This levels the playing field for shorter hitters and emphasizes the importance of hitting fairways. However, big hitters have also found success here, so a balanced approach off the tee is advantageous.

The key to success lies in mid-range irons and overall ball striking. The greens are a bent/poa mix, which is worth noting for those who analyze such details closely.

PGA DFS Picks: Top Values

Austin Eckroat

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,800
FanDuel: $8,300

Projection
DraftKings: 71.66
FanDuel: 70.7

Eckroat is a great boom/bust option this week, as he has the talent to compete in fields like this. He got a few reps at Travelers the last few years, and one positive is he gained strokes on the greens in both appearances. That fact holds even more significance considering how bad he has been putting in recent weeks. Eckroat has lost 11 strokes with the putter the last two tournaments, so coming to a familiar surface can only help.

With this being a non-cut, small field, the options for pay-down options are limited. We don’t have as many pivots, but at the same time there are a lot of different skill sets that can thrive at River Highlands. Eckroat fits the mold of a pure scorer who, with the right putting performance, can vastly outperform this tag. I don’t expect major ownership, and he makes for a reasonable sub-$7,000 target in this spot.

Emiliano Grillo

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,300
FanDuel: $7,300

Projection
DraftKings: 69.67
FanDuel: 68.96

Grillo is under $6,500 despite gaining in five straight events with the irons, and he has some solid course history here, finishing 15th in 2023. His putter never will be an asset, but it’s not a huge liability and he was able to make the cut in the US Open field last week.

There are reasonable questions as to whether you actually need to dip this low in order to make effective lineups. The answer to that is no, but at the same time some of the aggressive combinations up top require a true punt like Grillo. In a field this strong, the lower-$6,000 range is more than playable and Grillo is atop that list. With continued iron play that Grillo has shown in past weeks, he will outperform this salary tag and return some quality points for your lineup.

Adam Svensson

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,400
FanDuel: $7,600

Projection
DraftKings: 69.96
FanDuel: 68.77

It’s almost a joke at this point how often I roster and recommend playing Svensson. The even more hilarious part is that I couldn’t tell you whether it’s paid off or really hurt me, as he seems to do just enough to keep me interested. He once again made the cut last week in a major and couldn’t land inside the top 50. He lost another six strokes with the putter, and that has been the common theme on this run. Svensson strikes the ball better than his peers in this price range, but the upside remains limited.

Even with the putting struggles, Svensson is still a good guy to target here. He thrives on technical, easier layouts like this, and his putter truly cannot get worse. He can be your last man in, and despite some interest around the industry, I don’t expect crazy ownership numbers. Svensson and I are seemingly linked in 2024, and that won’t change this week.
