PGA DFS Picks: Top Values for the Rocket Mortgage Classic (2024)

The final major of the golf season is approaching, but there are still several tour stops before then. The next stop is the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. Unlike last week’s elevated event, this one features a full field, including many golfers who don’t get much exposure on tour. This offers a chance to focus on lesser-known names when building lineups, as many top players are taking a break this week. It will also present the challenge of identifying potential winners among players with few wins. Let’s explore the best PGA DFS value picks for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

PGA DFS: Rocket Mortgage Classic Tournament Preview

We have some insights on what to expect from Detroit Golf Club. Notably, the course tends to yield low scores, favoring players who can rack up birdies. The par-72 layout features several par 5’s that golfers will need to capitalize on, making par-5 scoring a key focus this week.

Many players will opt for aggressive tee shots, as the course doesn’t present many hazards and allows for the use of short irons on numerous holes. Overall, it’s a driver-heavy, par-5-centric birdie fest. If your players excel in these areas, you might find yourself in contention on Sunday.

PGA DFS Picks: Top Values

Ryo Hisatsune

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,900
FanDuel: $8,700

There is a lot of talent here for a sub-$7,000 price point. Hisatsune can score in bunches and will need to given how easy this might play. His irons are strong and have been all year, which is probably the path to upside with Hisatsune this week. He has two top-20s in his last four starts, including at the PGA Championship, which was a much stronger field than this.

With it being a full field, there are a ton of options below $7,000, which is both good and bad. On the positive side, it should temper ownership, and that cements Hisatsune as an interesting target this week. The tricky part is that there are a lot of potential pivots in a similar price point. I’ll be betting on talent, though, and Hisatsune is at the top of the list for $6,000 targets this week.

Alejandro Tosti

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,600
FanDuel: $8,900

Now we are getting serious with a true wild card play. Tosti is an absolute masher who isn’t afraid to take on these par 5’s or any other hole. He will rack up the birdies, and if he can make this cut, that should result in outscoring his placement points. Despite his erratic nature, he’s made four of five cuts and should be able to once again lean on his off-tee game to generate plenty of opportunities.

I actually bet Tosti at 90-1 given his upside, and if he can add something to his driving, watch out. In his runner-up finish at Houston, it was the driving and putting combination that carried him, and he can replicate that here. The risk is immense, but with this field, I love targeting him in GPPs and will be overweight on him in the $6,000 range.

Joel Dahmen

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,100
FanDuel: $7,800

You do not need to go this low this week given the lack of firepower at the top. However, if you do, there are names out there, including Joel Dahmen, who is finding some form at the right time. He comes in with five straight made cuts, including a 10th in Canada. Dahmen cannot putt, but tee to green he is one of the strongest in this range, which keeps him playable.

Dahmen also has some course history here, even if it’s without any successful finishes. He absolutely has the ball striking to stand out of this range, and it’s just a question again of how many teams need a player this cheap. If you are looking to say pay up for two studs at the top, this is a great guy to consider, as the upside is still there. Expect only a few percentage points of ownership, which solidifies him as a low-owned tournament play this week.
