Berryman’s PGA DFS Core Plays for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Xander Schauffele – $10,000

Schauffele has been the epitome of consistency of late, securing five top-10 finishes in his last six starts. Ranked fifth in the field in strokes gained on approach over the last 24 rounds, Schauffele showcases precision that bodes well for Pebble Beach’s small greens. He also sits comfortably inside the top 20 for birdie-or-better percentage, bogey avoidance and strokes gained off the tee over that same timeframe. The only blemish comes with his driving accuracy, which currently is sitting under 60% over the last 12 months. However, the short two-inch rough at Pebble Beach to support the Pro-Am format is likely to mitigate any concerns. I like how Schauffele sets up this week.

Max Homa – $9,200

Homa boasts an impressive track record at this event, with finishes of 14th, 10th and seventh in his last three starts. He’s also playing extremely well of late, securing eight consecutive finishes inside the top 15. His familiarity with California’s poa putting surfaces plays to his advantage this week, where he ranks ninth in this field on strokes gained putting on poa over the last 100 tracked rounds. Homa’s exceptional course fit, coupled with his accessible salary in the low-$9,000 range, positions him as a strong play.

Eric Cole – $7,300

Despite the missed cut at Farmers last week, Cole’s overall performance over the last three months was quite impressive. He had five top-15 finishes in his last seven starts, including an impressive trio of top-3 finishes through the swing season. Cole’s lack of distance becomes less of a concern on Pebble Beach’s sub-7,000-yard layout, allowing his strategic play to shine. Priced attractively at just $7,300, he emerges as one of the best value plays on the board.

GPP Flier – Stephen Jaeger – $7,300

When looking over projected ownership this week, I was surprised to see Jaeger coming in at single digits after his impressive third-place finish last week at Farmers. The consistency he brings to the table is very attractive at his price point, as he has made every cut since April of last year and secured top-30 finishes in nine of his last 12 starts. Jaeger’s prowess around the greens is especially intriguing, ranking 10th in strokes gained over the last 24 rounds. This skillset positions him well for Pebble Beach’s tiny putting surfaces, as players will be missing greens at a much higher rate than normal this week. With his recent success and low ownership projection, I’ll be taking a shot on Jaeger.
