NFL DFS Picks for Ravens-Chargers Monday Night Football Week 12: Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,000
FanDuel:
$15,500
Fantasy Points
DraftKings:
22.67
FanDuel: 22.19

Lamar Jackson is the reigning MVP, and he is leading the second-ranked scoring offense in the league to 30.4 points per game. He is averaging 261.5 passing yards per game, which is just over 50 yards higher than in his first MVP campaign and 30 yards more than last year. Jackson also leads the league in touchdown percentage, yards and air yards per attempt, and also net yards per attempt, resulting in a 117.3 passer rating.

But wait … there’s more … The 27-year-old also is averaging 53.1 rushing yards per game, which is a tick better than last year while boosting his yards per carry from 5.5 to 6.1, albeit with “only” two rushing scores. Keep in mind that while Jackson is one of the best running quarterbacks in the history of the league, he has 26 rushing touchdowns in his 81 games since becoming a full-time starter in 2019. That figure may surprise some gamers, but it is true.

Over the last month, the Chargers have had an easy quarterback schedule, getting Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, Jameis Winston and Will Levis. Last week they saw Joe Burrow, who carved up the defense for 356 yards and a trio of touchdowns, indicating this is a very good matchup for a two-time NFL MVP.

Baltimore Ravens Positional Preview

Running Back | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Prior to Saquon Barkley crushing Sunday Night Football with 255 rushing yards on 26 carries, Derrick Henry was leading the league with 107.7 yards per game. He has done this on a robust 6.0 yards per tote, adding 13 rushing scores and two more through the air. Henry has scored in every game this season, which is borderline ludicrous. The Chargers have allowed the 10th-fewest rushing yards per game (110.8) while leading the league with only three rushing touchdowns again. Expect that to change tonight, but it is still pretty impressive.

Justice Hill is the pass-catching option, and he has 37 targets, compared to only 12 for Henry. Both of his touchdowns have been on receptions, but he also is seeing a few carries each game as well. For the season, he is averaging about seven fewer offensive snaps per game than Henry. This is a good indication that 1) Henry gets a lot of the early-down work when he is on the field, and 2) even if Hill is not a primary options when he is on the field, he is on the field a lot, which is half the battle.

Patrick Ricard plays between 30% and 60% of the snaps, depending on the opponent. The former defensive lineman is masquerading as a 300-pound fullback but is more of a blocker than anything else. He has four targets for two receptions and a touchdown while also recovering a fumble in the end zone for a second score. Ricard’s last official rushing attempt was in the 2022 season. For his career, he has averaged about one offensive opportunity per game.

Wide Receiver | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are the main receivers, and each is on the field for around 80% of the snaps. Flowers leads the team with 79 targets, while Bateman is second at 52. Flowers has six targets in each of the last three games, and Bateman has four, eight and five. This is not an indication of Flowers falling out of favor or Bateman suddenly surging but additional confirmation that Jackson is taking what the defense is giving him — to great success.

Dionte Johnson has been on the field for 17, five and 11 snaps in his three games with the Raves, getting zero, two and two targets. Nelson Agholor has the third-most snaps, but he typically is getting only a couple looks per game. Tylan Wallace is averaging around a dozen plays per game, with four of his six total targets occurring in the last two tilts. Caveat Emptor!

Tight End | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Mark Andrews started off slowly this season, working his way back from an injury and also the aftereffects of a fender bender. He and Isaiah Likely are now tied with 39 targets each, while Charlie Kolar is well behind with only 10 on the season and one in the last three games. Andrews and Likely are only separated by $200 on DraftKings, but it is a $2,000 savings for Likely on FanDuel ($7,500). This would be a good spot to consider where the rest of the field is leaning and heading in the other direction for the large-field tournaments to gain differentiation.

Kicker | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Justin Tucker missed two field goals in Week 11, and on Thursday Night Football in Week 10, he did not have any field goal attempts but missed one of his three extra point attempts. Arguably the best place kicker in the history of the NFL, Tucker has an anemic 72.7% conversion rate on 22 field goal attempts, which is well below his 89.3% career success rate. Tucker led the league in made field goal attempts three times in his 13 years, which is just wild. Over the last eight seasons, he has been either first- or second-team All-Pro, or the AFC Pro Bowl kicker. Considering he is just 35 years old, he should have another two or three years in his prime. Trust the process.

Defense | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Baltimore is fifth in the league with 35 sacks, while Los Angeles has ceded 26 quarterback takedowns this season. The Chargers have been stingy with only five turnovers this year, and the Ravens are averaging one takeaway per game.

NFL DFS Picks for Ravens-Chargers Monday Night Football Week 12: Justin Herbert

Justin Herbert

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $10,400
FanDuel:
$15,500
Fantasy Points
DraftKings:
20.67
FanDuel: 19.91

Since the Week 5 bye, Justin Herbert has 32 or more pass attempts in four of six games. That is a dramatic departure from his average of 22.8 attempts during the first month of the season.

While Herbert has only 13 passing scores, he also has suffered only one interception, which occurred all the way back in Week 2. Herbert threw for 279-plus yards in four of the last five games, with three multi-touchdown efforts.

The Ravens have allowed six different quarterbacks to throw for at least 290 yards against them this season, and four games resulted in at least three aerial touchdowns. Herbert does not project well for the multiplier slot, but he is someone to be over the field on in the Flex position.

Los Angeles Chargers Positional Preview

Running Back | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Tonight is a “Remember Me?!” spot for both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, who began their careers with the Baltimore Ravens. Edwards missed Weeks 6 through 9, getting 10 and six carries in the last two games. Dobbins had 15 and 11 carries in these matchups, which was a good thing for the long-term health prospects of the oft-injured running back but not so much for the typical DFS gamers.

It is hard to justify a $10,000 salary for Dobbins on DraftKings, though Edwards is more palatable at $2,800 in the hopes he will rumble into the end zone. It will be even tougher for Dobbins at $13,500 on the blue site, though this in turn has suppressed his popularity. However, it is the same story for Edwards, who could pay off his $7,500 with a touchdown plunge.

Rookie Kimani Vidal will likely be inactive, and special-teamer Hassan Haskins will serve as the RB3. Haskins has two carries in each of the last two games since Edwards returned to action. This has resulted in 5 yards and one touchdown.

Wide Receiver | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Ladd McConkey is questionable with a shoulder injury, which is a shame since he leads the team with 63 targets. If he is active, there, of course, will be concern for aggravation of the issue, but it is a risk/reward situation each of us will need to handle. Quentin Johnston (37) and Joshua Palmer (32) have combined for only seven more targets than McConkey.

In a twist, Johnston has improved significantly from his poor rookie campaign, though we should not expect him to keep running so hot with the touchdowns, having accounted for six of the 13 Herbert has thrown. Palmer also should improve from his one touchdown, but it has been disappointing that he was not able to hold off either of his younger counterparts.

D.J. Chark is now healthy, but he was not active last week and stepped between the lines only once in Week 10. It would appear the only way he is playable would be in the event McConkey is inactive. Jalen Reagor has been averaging around a dozen empty routes per game over the last month, with returner Derius Davis getting a few offensive plays each game.

Tight End | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Hayden Hurst appears to have been banished back to the shadow realm, and Tucker Fisk took over the TE2 role with 23 and 24 snaps the last two games and his two targets for the season coming on Sunday Night Football. Will Dissly is second on the team with 48 targets, which is a little wild since he was considered more of a blocker than a pass catcher while in Seattle.

Stone Smartt is healthy, though he has a scant three targets this year on 35 offensive snaps. He had seven plays last week but no offensive opportunities. Still, he is an extreme punt option on DraftKings at the $200 minimum salary.

Kicker | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

Tonight will be the 39th career game for Cameron Dicker, who has a wicked 93.6% conversion rate on his 78 field goal attempts. Dicker was not drafted after four strong seasons at Texas; the Rams signed him but released him during the 2022 preseason.

Ten days later, the Ravens inked him to a deal then bailed after 48 hours. The Eagles were his next team, giving him one game as the replacement for Jake Elliott, which earned him the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors, though they cut him less than three weeks later when Elliott was available. One week after his release, he won the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week with the Chargers. That earned him “the bag” in the form of a four-year deal worth $22 million with an out after next season. Hat tip to Dicker, who already has $5.3 million in career earnings.

Defense | Ravens-Chargers NFL DFS Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12

The Chargers are averaging nearly 3.5 sacks per game, which ranks sixth in the league. However, when it comes to turnovers, Los Angeles is in the middle of the pack. The Ravens have ceded only nine turnovers, throwing just three interceptions. Even with homefield advantage, it is going to be tough for the Bolts to get to Jackson, who has been sacked only 15 times this season.

Top 10 NFL DFS Showdown Picks for Ravens-Chargers

  1. Lamar Jackson: Still the top dog for the single-slate action, though not by as much in prior seasons.
  2. Derrick Henry: The touchdowns have been insane, but this is going to be a long row to hoe tonight.
  3. Justin Herbert: Would be outclassed by any of his pass-catchers who have more than one touchdown.
  4. Zay Flowers: Two-touchdown upside, though as noted above, Jackson takes what the defense allows.
  5. Ladd McConkey: If there were no health concerns, he would rank second.
  6. Justice Hill: Makes it all work on DraftKings at $3,200.
  7. Cameron Dicker: Slight edge over his counterpart.
  8. Justin Tucker: Hopefully his struggles are behind him.
  9. Quentin Johnston: Perhaps he just needed a year to get acclimated?
  10. Rashod Bateman: $4,200 discount to Flowers on DraftKings is enticing as a consolation prize.

Secondary Options

  1. J.K. Dobbins: Lofty salary for someone who is not peppered with targets out of the backfield.
  2. Gus Edwards: Touchdown or bust, but it feels all but preordained that one of these former Ravens puts one in the box tonight.
  3. Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely: No need to avoid having them on the same roster, but volume has been tricky.
  4. Will Dissly: How crazy is it that he has the second-most targets for the Chargers?
  5. Joshua Palmer: The struggle is real.

Lottery Tickets

  1. Los Angeles D/ST: Not much for this unit to work with from the Ravens.
  2. Baltimore D/ST: Even thinner than the Chargers.
  3. Dionte Johnson, Nelson Agholor and Jalen Reagor: Different teams, same assessment — m-e-h, MEH!
  4. Stone Smart, Tucker Fisk and Hassan Haskins: $200 ballers on DraftKings; skip on FanDuel unless crafting more than 50 lineups.
  5. Derius Davis: Returns punts and kickoffs, plus he usually gets a couple routes. Actual offensive looks are a different story.
  6. Charlie Kolar and Tylan Wallace: Decent chance that each will get one low-leverage look.
  7. Patrick Ricard: Sadly, there are no points for pancake blocks.
  8. Keaton Mitchell: Healthy but lost in the shuffle.
