Quarterback: Tyler Huntley (MIA) – $5,500
Unlike last Monday night when we had Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Jaylen Daniels to choose from, tonight’s options aren’t nearly as attractive. Though Geno Smith probably looks like the best of the bunch at $5,900, the field is already getting to him plenty, as he’s expected to be rostered in 37.1% of lineups on DraftKings. That leaves Jared Goff, Will Levis and Tyler Huntley as the lower owned options, with Huntley emerging as the arm to target in tournaments.
While Goff always seems like a solid play because of his plethora of weapons, he’s been less than spectacular this season, averaging only 13.9 DraftKings points per game. Matched up with a tough Seattle defense, it’s tough to get excited about him in this spot. Huntley, on the other hand, has a much wider range of outcomes due to his ability to run, and he’s falling through the cracks a bit too much on DraftKings.
Running Back: Jeff Wilson Jr. (MIA) – $4,300
Sticking with the Dolphins, backup running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is popping in Stokastic’s Pre-Contest Simulator. Coming off two unproductive weeks as the primary backup to De’Von Achane, the field has basically no interest in getting to him tonight at $4,300. Considering the amount of talented running backs on this slate his low ownership not overly surprising, but Wilson looks like one of the top punt plays to target in tournaments at only $4,300.
Though Wilson’s 4.6 combined DraftKings points over the past two games leaves a lot to be desired, Miami got throttled a combined 55-13 in those contests, limiting Wilson’s touches out of the backfield. While it’s still unlikely that Wilson puts up a score that’s needed to win tournaments even in a positive game script, his $4,300 price tag opens doors to roster construction that otherwise would be shut.
Wide Receiver: Tim Patrick (DET) – $3,200
If Wilson wasn’t bad enough, here’s your trash pick of the week, so please skip to the Tight End section if you don’t enjoy diving in dumpsters like I do.
With only two games in play, finding standout contrarian value can oftentimes be difficult. The field is a lot sharper now than it was even a few years ago, and most of the time when players are lower owned they are so for a reason. All that being said, players can still fall through the cracks a bit, and newly minted Lions wideout Tim Patrick fits that mold. While Patrick is similar to Wilson in that it’s unlikely he puts up a score that’s a must in tournaments, he’s even cheaper at $3,200, and there should be opportunities for him to get targets working as Detroit’s No. 3 wide receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
Tight End: Chig Okonkwo (TEN) – $3,700
There isn’t a ton to like on Tennessee tonight, but the field sees that as well, and the Titans will likely end up having by far the lowest owned cumulative ownership of any team on the slate. While they look like the worst team to target players from, tight end Chig Okonkwo stands out at a position lacking talent outside of Sam LaPorta.
Okonkwo comes into tonight averaging only 5.9 DraftKings points per game, but that’s actually the highest of any tight end on the slate with LaPorta averaging 5.8. In a game the Titans should presumably be throwing the ball a decent amount, Okonkwo is only projected to be in 11.4% of lineups on DraftKings. With an optimal percentage of 13.18%, he stands out as one of the top differentiators on the slate.
Defense/Special Teams: Seahawks – $2,800
