NFL DFS MNF Contrarian Captain: Kareem Hunt

Stokastic’s Captain Optimal %
DraftKings: 7.2%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $7,400

Week 5 of the NFL season concludes with a banger as the undefeated Chiefs host a 2-2 Saints team that is looking to put an end to a two-game losing streak. Even with injuries to some of Kansas City’s playmakers, both of these teams have plenty of skill position players to be interested in on a Showdown slate. While it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that longtime DFS stars Alvin Kamara and Patrick Mahomes are coming in as by far the highest-owned players on the slate, Kareem Hunt is way under-represented on DraftKings.

Despite coming into Monday night with a pristine 4-0 record, Kansas City’s offense hasn’t offered much to get excited about outside of now-injured wide receiver Rashee Rice. With Travis Kelce another year older and limited playmakers on the outside, Mahomes is only averaging 15.6 DraftKings points per game, and the reigning Super Bowl MVP has yet to reach 18 fantasy points in any game this season. While this isn’t a knock on Mahomes himself, it’s clear that the Chiefs are relying much more on their running game and defense, at least in the regular season. With Isiah Pacheco out for six to eight weeks with a broken fibula, Kansas City welcomed back an old friend in Hunt and immediately saw him lead the backfield in touches and yards in last week’s 17-10 victory over the Chargers. He should even more of the workload tonight considering Hunt’s familiarity with Mahomes, Andy Reid and this Chiefs offense.

Though Hunt only projects to be optimal as a Captain 7.2% of the time this slate plays out, the field still isn’t getting to him enough, with only 6.4% of lineups expected to Captain him.

NFL DFS MNF Contrarian Utility Pick: Mason Tipton

Stokastic’s Utility Optimal %
DraftKings: 9.0%
Ownership Projection
DraftKings: 4.6%

Diving a little bit deeper for our contrarian Utility play, Saints wide receiver Mason Tipton is popping in both Stokastic’s Tools and Stokastic’s Sims. The undrafted rookie out of Yale played a season-high 39% of offensive snaps in Week 4 against the Falcons. Though this didn’t lead to more targets, Tipton has been on the field and he’s only $1,000 on a slate with a couple premium spend-up options.

He has only been targeted a total of only five times in New Orleans’ first four games, but Tipton is still seeing consistent playing time operating as the Saints’ fourth wide receiver behind Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Cedrick Wilson Jr. While Olave, Shaheed and Alvin Kamara will see most of the targets, there’s still a bit of meat on the bone for Tipton to get there at an extremely cheap price tag. Ultimately, Tipton’s cheap price tag creates roster flexibility even if his floor is low.

Tipton is projected to be optimal as a Utility play 9.0% of the time this slate plays out on DraftKings. However, only 4.6% of lineups are currently projected to roster him.
