NBA DFS Tools & Winning Lineup: How to Turn $4 Into $1,000

If you want a good image of how the Sims performed on this rare NBA Showdown slate, the top 50 lineups in terms of actual finish position all simulated with positive ROI pre-contest. In other words, the Sims were on it beforehand.

VeryBerry69 entered only five lineups at $4 each (this DraftKings contest was 20 entry max), and three of them cashed. While only one finished higher than 300th and that lineup was the runner-up, VeryBerry69’s total lineup ROI was actually the highest of any user in the contest. Check out their lineups:

The first-place finisher entered 13 lineups and only had one in the top 1,000, so their total ROI was about 1,000 percentage points below VeryBerry69’s.

VeryBerry69 shouted out Stokastic host Josh Engleman for his advice that he gives out on the NBA DFS Strategy Show, and if you want more expertise from Josh, you can watch his ConTENders videos on our YouTube channel or check out the articles based on them (if you’re more of the reading type).

With the advice they received, VeryBerry69 went with two Knicks and four Raptors for the Showdown. Ultimately, this was the better move since the Raptors ended up producing more value down the salary spectrum with Scottie Barnes exiting due to injury.

Avoiding Barnes was key here — he was one of the highest-salary players on the slate but was done after only 23 minutes. He returned strongly negative as both a Captain (-100% ROI) and as a Utility (-87.9%), and his ownership was 11% and 49.3%, respectively. As it turned out, VeryBerry69’s two Barnes lineups were the two that did not cash.

Now, for the most part, VeryBerry69 went chalk. Karl-Anthony Towns was the chalkiest Captain (22.6%), Davion Mitchell was No. 1 for Utility, and O.G. Anunoby, Jakob Poeltl and R.J. Barrett all were in over 26% of lineups. However, the Ja’Kobe Walter addition at 12.8% got them enough differentiation to clinch a solo second place.
