NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Terry Rozier: Heat at Bulls

There is a good chance that Chicago will be running a little thin tonight as it can take 48 to 72 hours for the various parties involved in the recent trades to be cleared by the respective team doctors, etc.

That means Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter and Zach Collins may not be available, and even if they are, that isn’t going to be much help on defense. Plus Jalen Smith is questionable, having missed the last game with an illness, and Dalen Terry (knee) is questionable as well. Also Chris Duarte and Torrey Craig have been waived.

Miami is healthy aside from Josh Richardson, who hasn’t suited up since before Thanksgiving. Jimmy “Trade Demand” Butler is still suspended, pending a potential trade. Landing spots are slowly evaporating, and the deadline is in just two days. Terry Rozier was dialed in the last two games, sinking 15 of 27 (56%) of his field goal attempts, including 7 of 15 (46%) from beyond the arc. Respect the streak and enjoy the discount in a matchup where Miami has a 115.5 team total, which is nearly 5 points over the Heat’s season average.

Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware are among the 10 most popular plays on DraftKings in the early projections, with Adebayo looking particularly appealing on FanDuel ($8,100, 38.5%), where his power forward eligibility gives him additional flexibility over his rookie teammate. Ware is going to get a long look down the stretch, though he will likely start to have his minutes monitored later this spring. In the meantime, since joining the first five, he averaged 33.8 minutes, 13.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 2.5 combined blocks and steals in six games. He is more of a matchup play as his salary continues to increase, though he acquitted himself well against several veteran frontcourts such as Milwaukee, Orlando and Cleveland over the last half dozen games.

Tyler Herro averaged 23.8 points. 5.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 0.8 combined blocks and steals over the last 18 games. Butler played in only four of these tilts, which keeps Herro in play as an under-the-radar tournament target.

Miami was below average on defense over the last fortnight, with a 116.0 efficiency rating. Depending on how things shake out and who is available for Chicago, the starting lineup, along with Lonzo Ball on DraftKings, are all likely to be viable options for tournament differentiation.

Jalen Brunson: Knicks at Raptors

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 48.28 | FanDuel: 48.15
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 23.8% | FanDuel: 50.5%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $8,400 | FanDuel: $7,800

This is a back-to-back for the Knickerbockers, who held off the Houston Rockets 124-118 last night in Madison Square Garden. The team also played Saturday, though it is off until this Saturday, when the Boston Celtics will be in town for the featured ABC game.

Anyone under coach Tom Thibodeau is used to heavy minutes, so there should not be too much of a concern for any of the regulars tonight.

Speaking of the regulars, O.G. Anunoby (foot) is likely to miss a second consecutive game and Josh Hart (knee) is questionable with a sore knee. The latter would probably find a way to play even if he were missing a leg, so we will need to wait for more news on his availability. He had three triple-doubles in the last nine games, missing a fourth by a single assist.

Jalen Brunson is the engine behind this offense, pouring in 29.3 points per game over his last 12 appearances. In two of his last three games, Brunson posted 65-plus fantasy points, which is sublime. Karl-Anthony Towns keeps chugging along with metronomic consistency, reaching the 40-fantasy point plateau more often than not. He is averaging a career-best 13.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

If Anunoby is out, expect another start from Precious Achiuwa, while Miles McBride could enter the fray if Hart is forced to sit. The Knicks scored 124, 112, 122, 143 and 143 points in the last five games. The defense has been slipping a little, but that is a lot of fantasy goodness to go around.

Toronto will be without RJ Barrett (concussion), while Chris Boucher (illness) and Bruce Brown (nose) are questionable. Scottie Barnes is always a tournament target, though we could see another player or two from Toronto rise up the ranks.

Joel Embiid may be back after missing the last month, which could cut into some of Tyrese Maxey’s production. Dallas will be without PJ Washington, in addition to Dereck Lively II and Dwight Powell. Anthony Davis is out as well, so the only thing stopping Daniel Gafford from all the minutes he can handle is foul trouble against Embiid.

Philadelphia has listed Paul George out, while KJ Martin, Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon as questionable, plus who really knows what will happen with Embiid? It also sounds like Caleb Martin is being traded, so depending on who is available, Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr., Guerschon Yabusele, Ricky Council IV and even old man Kyle Lowry could provide utility.

Max Christie will be available, and since he is mainly a 3-and-D option, he should not have much trouble acclimating on offense. Kyrie Irving is a secondary option, with Naji Marshall a likely candidate to move into the starting lineup now that Quentin Grimes has been traded, minting another fantasy point-per-dollar option out of thin air.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

James Harden is popping in the model for the under on his 9.5 assists prop tonight against the crosstown rival Lakers.

The screenshot of Portfolio EV shows that this wager projects to win 51% of the time. That combined with the +105 odds on Hard Rock leads to a favorable 5.2% expected value when accounting for the -105 “True Odds.”

Stokastic’s Advanced NBA Statistical Projections have Harden projected for 37.5 minutes and 4.48 assists. In his last 13 games, Harden averaged 9.4 assists, with eight games of 10 or more. This underscores the need to get this wager at plus money but also puts into light that the more deliberate nature of the shorthanded Lakers tonight could lead to fewer possessions, which means fewer chances for assists.
