NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

John Collins: Jazz vs. Spurs

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 38.49 | FanDuel: 37.3
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 34.1% | FanDuel: 41.7%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $7,300 | FanDuel: $7,300

This game is teeming with DFS options. Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell remain out for San Antonio, and Jordan Clarkson and Kyle Filipowski are missing for Utah.

Neither squad is running their players into the ground, but there are enough minutes to make several players enticing tonight.

John Collins has seen a bump in his production over the last seven games since he has moved into the starting lineup. During this period, he is averaging 32.6 minutes, 13.9 field goal attempts and a 57.7% conversion rate. This has resulted in 20.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and a stellar 2.7 combined blocks and steals.

The Jazz have been in the bottom 5 at 118.9 points per 100 possessions, but Utah also has been much improved with a 115.8 offensive efficiency rating that has been keeping it competitive in games. San Antonio is only favored by a bucket in Salt Lake City tonight, which ideally will lead to a spirited game.

Collin Sexton, Keyonte George, Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler are all among the 20 most popular plays on DraftKings, with Markkanen sliding out of the mix on FanDuel. Kessler returned from a six-game layoff, moving back into the first five and playing 35.2 minutes. He had a double-double with three blocks and looked in midseason form. The main knock is that he doesn’t attempt many shots, but his proclivity for blocks and rebounds keeps him in play as a tournament option.

Victor Wembanyama also returned to action on Saturday after his own three-game absence. The French phenom helped lead the Spurs to a 104-94 victory over the surging Golden State Warriors. After a slow start, the 21-year-old has come close to matching last year’s production across the board, along with an extra two minutes per game. In his last game against Kessler, Wemby had seven blocks and 16 rebounds, each of which was his second-highest total in the respective category this season.

Stephen Castle has shown flashes of upside, and he is popping on FanDuel ($5,400), where he is expected to be on one-in-three tournament rosters. DraftKings ($5,200) is a similar story, where he projects to be on one-in-five lineups. Chris Paul and Julian Champagnie are fine to sprinkle in across lineups, though they are more neutral from a fantasy point-per-dollar perspective.

Nikola Vucevic: Bulls at Wizards

NBA DFS Projections
DraftKings: 38.42 | FanDuel: 36.99
NBA DFS Ownership Projections
DraftKings: 9.3% | FanDuel: 7.9%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $8,200 | FanDuel: $8,100

There are a lot of center options tonight, though fortunately on FanDuel Wembanyama has power forward eligibility. That makes it possible to still play Nikola Vucevic, who should be able to operate with impunity against the Washington frontcourt. Alex Sarr is raw, and Jonas Valanciunas is not really a staunch defender against fellow bigs.

Patrick Williams remains out, which has led to a few different spot starters for the Bulls. It will likely be Ayo Dosunmu tonight against Washington, as it seemed like the Torrey Craig adventure was a one-time event. Dosunmu has been solid as a reserve as well, but obviously the team misses the defense of Williams.

Josh Giddey has a better salary than Zach LaVine and less popularity, despite similar fantasy point-per-dollar expectations. Coby White is closer in salary to LaVine, but he has just as much tournament upside for a fraction of the popularity. There are two games that are dominating this slate, so finding some differentiation against the field is a potential path to glory. Rookie Matas Buzelis has seen his salary increase, so he is not as appealing of a discount dandy as he was on Saturday.

Washington is waiting to see about the availability of Jordan Poole, who has been dealing with a sore hip. If he starts, expect him to be good to go; if he sits, then it opens up minutes and opportunities for Malcolm Brogdon and Carlton “Bub” Carrington.

Kyle Kuzma has been plagued with a groin injury, though he could be nearing full strength, which makes him a tournament dart throw since a wait-and-see approach will be too late to the party. Sarr has a 50- and a 45-fantasy point game in his last five tilts, though he barely averaged 15 fantasy points in the three middle games. One last note: If Poole is out, Bilal Coulibaly will get some trickledown production, which would mint him as a differentiation option.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Lauri Markkanen is a desirable DFS option for his salary and situation, plus we can look to the over on his 6.5 rebounds prop, which is rather enticing.

Leveraging Portfolio EV to do the heavy lifting makes spotting favorable bets a breeze. With this tool, inefficient odds become easy to identify. By keeping accounts across multiple sportsbooks, you can act quickly to lock in the best available odds.

This approach effectively pits the sportsbooks against each other, revealing that FanDuel has posted +102 odds that are markedly better than those other major operators are offering.

Odds are constantly shifting, so when you spot something favorable, quick action is key. That’s where Portfolio EV comes in — it identifies the best odds available anytime, day or night.

Stokastic’s Advanced NBA Statistical Projections have Markkanen projected for 33.9 minutes and 7.31 rebounds, which would clear the seven needed for success on this 6.5-rebound threshold. The “True Odds” of -108 and a 52% win rate show that there is a 5.0% expected ROI.

It is important to remember that Kessler is back, which adds another strong rebounder into the mix, but Washington does not have an imposing frontcourt, and over the last 10 games, the Wizards have been a bottom-5 rebounding team.
