NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Bucks vs. Lakers

LeBron James is out for tonight’s game, which has the Bucks installed as 8.5 point favorites in Milwaukee. Giannis Antetokounmpo will likely see his popularity double or triple from the current level, once additional information and any surprise lineup tweaks are unveiled in the upcoming injury reports across the eight teams in action tonight.

The Bucks are just 5-4 in their last nine games, holding a slim 2.5 game lead over Cleveland, 3.0 games above New York and four games better than Orlando. The next back-to-back is not on the schedule for another week and with a winnable game tonight, along with four “creampuff” matchups after that, this is a good stretch for Milwaukee to solidify the No. 2 seed.

Khris Middleton has averaged just over 28 minutes in the last three games, while averaging just over 40 fantasy points. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the primary option along with Damian Lillard in a secondary role, but it is good to see Middleton getting into form and also posting nearly a 28% usage rate in this recent timeframe. This is the trio to target from the Bucks, even on a shallow four-game slate. It will take unexpected injury news to shake loose anyone else from this rotation. If Antetokounmpo or Middleton are out for any reason, Bobby Portis would be an amazing fill-in.

Anthony Davis should get all the usage in the land with James out, however, as this is the first stop of a six-game road trip, expect a quick hook if the game is out of hand in the final frame. D’Angelo Russell was a late scratch due to an illness, being ruled out just prior to tipoff of the last game, but he is expected to suit up tonight. He and Austin Reaves are the likely players to pick up LeBron’s usage, with Taurean Prince looking like a decent value option with Christian Wood and Jarred Vanderbilt on the shelf.

Rui Hachimura should also get a few extra minutes and of course Davis will be the primary offensive option while he is on the court. If Russell is out or there are hints that he is not at full capacity, then Spencer Dinwiddie and Cam Reddish would be elevated to tournament consideration.

Domantas Sabonis: Kings vs. Mavericks

This is a great game for the TNT nightcap, as Dallas and Sacramento have an identical record. Currently the Kings have the tiebreaker, which has them on the good side of the Play-In Tournament cutoff.

Even though this is a back-to-back for the Mavericks, expect this to be a spirited matchup with several key plays from both sides.

Domantas Sabonis continues his torrid rebounding rate, leading the league with a career-high 13.7 per game, and looking like he will earn the crown for a second consecutive season. He also leads the league with 24 triple-doubles, two more than Nikola Jokic and five more than Luka Doncic. Doncic laid down a monster last night as the Jazz actually had a one-point lead early in the fourth quarter. This kept Doncic in the game for 41 minutes, with him posting a 29-12-13 triple-double. Kyrie Irving and P.J. Washington logged 36 and 35 minutes respectively, with decent fantasy production. This is the trio to target, with Daniel Gafford worthy of tournament consideration, if he remains in the starting lineup.

De’Aaron Fox is another strong option in all formats as he has been outstanding against Dallas this season. While Sabonis tends to cap the upside of Fox’s assist totals, the former Kentucky Wildcat is posting a career high 26.7 points and 2.0 steals per game, with his best ever fantasy production at just over 45 points per game.

Malik Monk and Keegan Murray are above average choices in all formats on DraftKings. This also holds true on FanDuel, with Harrison Barnes also in play on the blue site.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Keegan Murray is someone to consider in the DFS world, as well as in the sports wagering market for the under on his 2.5 made 3-point attempts prop. Currently this wager is available at +115 at BetMGM.

By using OddsShopper to do the heavy lifting when researching favorable bets, we can quickly spot inefficient lines like this one, and having accounts at multiple sportsbooks allows us to pivot to the best number quickly.

Per the true odds of +105 (how OddsShopper measures the potential expected ROI of a given wager), this opportunity has a stellar 4.7% positive expected ROI as a function of the inefficient line.

NBA Bet Pro currently has Murray projected for 34.6 minutes and 2.46 made 3-point attempts. This is in line with tonight’s targeted threshold, though still does not account for variable outcomes. The 49% win rate further indicates we should not consider this wager, unless it is available at “plus” money.

Over his last dozen games, the second-year forward is averaging 35.5 minutes and 6.2 3-point attempts, with a 31.1% conversion rate. This works out to 1.9 make troikas per tilt, but keep in mind Kevin Huerter has been out for the last couple of games, which frees up some field goal attempts. Those are going to be dispersed between Monk, Barnes, Fox and others, thought it is still worthy of a call out. In these 12 games, Murray has three or more triples, three times. One game of three, one of six and one with five, the former two were in the last pair of games without Huerter.
