NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks

Domantas Sabonis: Sacramento Kings vs. Phoenix Suns

It has been Domantas Sabonis carrying the Kings while teammate De’Aaron Fox has been in a dreadful shooting slump. Currently Fox is converting at a 46.5% clip from the field this season on a career-high 20.3 attempts per game. That is a dramatic drop-off from his outstanding 51.2% rate last year and is the lowest success rate over the last five seasons. It would seem that the 26-year-old has reached his nadir over the last four games, sinking just 39.4% of his attempts.

Sabonis, on the other hand, is again leading the league in rebounds, and he has pushed his average all the way up to a career-high 13.2 per game. He also has a career-high 8.3 assists, one higher than last season’s personal best. On top of that, he has been ridiculously efficient from the field, with high-water marks of 62.3% overall and 44.1% from beyond the arc, which makes it sad he only takes 12.8 attempts and just 1.1 from downtown per game.

Oh, and just for fun, he has 16 triple-doubles, including five in his last seven games. This will be the fourth and final time Sabonis faces the Suns in the regular season, and in the first three games he averaged 21.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists.

Fox is a tournament differentiator for the main slate and a solid target for the three-game late slate. Keegan Murray stands out on DraftKings, while it is Kevin Huerter on the blue site for the featured tournaments. Malik Monk has been back in the mix with 40-plus fantasy points in four of his last six games after barely averaging 20 fantasy points in the six contests preceding his resurgence.

Kevin Durant is a strong option on FanDuel, though he is competing at the power forward slot with LeBron James and Anthony Davis from a fantasy point-per-dollar perspective on DraftKings. Bradley Beal wraps up the FanDuel options, and he is likely to be on nearly one-quarter of all tournament rosters.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 57.77 | FanDuel: 56.82
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 6% | FanDuel: 7.8%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,700 | FanDuel: $11,800

Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped the hammer on Denver last night, racking up 36 points, 18 rebounds, five assists, and five combined blocks and steals in just 30 minutes. Though this is a back-to-back and fourth game in six days, Antetokounmpo has averaged just 27 minutes in the last three games, each of which was decided by 17 or more points.

Khris Middleton remains out for the Bucks, so Antetokounmpo will once again be asked to anchor the frontcourt.

Jimmy Butler (personal) is out, and both Terry Rozier and Josh Richardson are unlikely to take the court prior to mid-March. That means Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo will be the main scorers and facilitators for the offense, at least until Butler returns. Duncan Robinson is dealing with left arm issues, having been able to take the court only three times in February. This is his off arm, so if the soon-to-be 30-year-old takes the court tonight, he will be one of the most popular discount dandies if he is with the first five.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. has had an outstanding rookie campaign, and while he is more polished than most first-year players — he turns 24 over the All-Star Break — he also has been able to hold his own when getting extended minutes. Expect to see him on close to one-third of all rosters on the main DFS sites.

Be careful when assigning expectations to Kevin Love, who is unlikely to play more than 18 to 20 minutes, even with the Heat shorthanded. Also, Caleb Martin is a wild card, as he can disappear for long stretches in games. If Robinson sits, Haywood Highsmith will be an extreme punt and one that carries great risks, even if he gets a spot start.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Anthony Edwards is someone to look at in the sports wagering market for the under on his 25.5 points prop, which is currently available at odds of +115 on Bet365.

This is a good example that demonstrates the power of letting OddsShopper do the heavy lifting when researching favorable bets.

The next best odds at the most popular books are in the +100 to +105 range, with sharp book Pinnacle down to a -107 line and FanDuel goosing the milestone by a point to 26.5 but juicing it to -125. It pays to be a savvy shopper!

Per the true odds of +105 (how OddsShopper measures the potential expected ROI of a given wager), this opportunity has an excellent 5% positive expected ROI as a function of the inefficient line.

NBA Bet Pro currently has Edwards projected for 35.5 minutes and 25.44 points. That median projection is right around the 25.5 target, but keep in mind a range of outcomes is far different than one specific projection.

In his last 12 games, Edwards has scored 26 or more points six (50%) times, with two games below 10 points. It is important to note that everyone is healthy for Minnesota, and the Timberwolves are nearly double-digit favorites in Portland tonight against a thin Trail Blazers squad. The hope here is that the T-Wolves head out to an early and commanding lead and do not need to give full minutes to their starters. Yes, Edwards could post 26 points on efficient shooting, but that is still a pretty tough number to reach, as evidenced by his disparate outcomes against that median average.
