NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks

Cade Cunningham: Pistons vs. Hornets

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 42.31 | FanDuel: 40.13
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 13.5% | FanDuel: 13.3%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $8,400 | FanDuel: $8,600

Third-year guard Cade Cunningham has similar averages this season, when compared to last year. However, in his nine games since the All-Star Break, he has played at least 30 minutes in each appearance, while averaging 33.1 minutes and 18.6 field goal attempts with a 49.1% success rate. This has culminated in 25.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 0.8 combined blocks and steals, with a trio of 50 fantasy point efforts, including each of his last two tilts.

Detroit has lost 10 of the last 12 games, but the Pistons did secure their 10th win of the season on Thursday, allowing them to avoid the ignominy of the worst record in NBA history. Charlotte ended a six-game skid on Saturday, topping the Brooklyn Nets and technically one team has to win tonight.

Cunningham is right in the sweet spot on the salary list, a little below the superstars, but not exactly a discount dandy with his increasing cap hit. That is the type of player that tends to be underrepresented in tournaments as games look to craft the coveted stars and scrubs tournament roster build.

Charlotte will once again be without LaMelo Ball, Mark Williams, Cody Martin, Seth Curry, Tre Mann and now Bryce McGowens. Miles Bridges is in a similar category as Cunningham, albeit with eligibility at the forward positions. He has tallied 40-plus fantasy points in four of the last five, with a 50-burger in Washington on Friday. That is certainly on the menu tonight as long as he continues to see 37 or more minutes.

Grant Williams stands out on FanDuel with his $5,000 salary, which has him currently projected to be on half of all tournament lineups. That is the second-highest mark for any player on the blue site.

These franchises are also represented on DraftKings with Detroit'[‘s Jalen Duren (33.0%) and Jaden Ivey (22.2%) and Charlotte’s Vasilije Micic (28.9%) each projected among the top-10 most popular plays.

Caris Levert: Cavaliers vs. Suns

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 37.45 | FanDuel: 36.9
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 39.7% | FanDuel: 54.4%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $6,700 | FanDuel: $6,800

This is a back-to-back for the shorthanded Cavaliers, who lost last night in Cleveland to the Brooklyn Nets 120-101. The drubbing resulted in Jarrett Allen being the only starter to set foot on the court in the final frame.

Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Max Strus and Dean Wade are all out, which means major minutes and opportunities for Caris LeVert, Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, Georges Niang and of course Allen.

LeVert is one of the two most popular options across the DFS sites tonight and he should remain as such, even if he returns to a reserve role. He has seen heavy minutes off the bench with the team missing multiple starters, with his ability to cover several positions. Yesterday Allen was the recommended play of the day, today he is just one of many centers in the player pool. Craig Porter Jr. remains an extreme punt option on DraftKings, though he may slide back to obscurity as more injuries and absences are announced by the other teams on the docket.

Devin Booker is on track to return for the Suns and after his absence allowed the salaries of Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to elevate, none of this trio is particularly interesting tonight.

NBA DFS Picks: Key Games

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs

Trayce Jackson-Davis moved into the starting lineup on Saturday, replacing Andrew Wiggins, with Chris Paul slotting in for Stephen Curry. If Jackson-Davis remains with the first five, he is currently projected to be the most rostered player on DraftKings (46.5%) at just $4,400. FanDuel is a different story as Jackson-Davis is $1,100 more expensive on the blue site and likely to be on just one out of every five lineups.

Paul is a neutral option for the featured slate, though he gains appeal for the evening sub-slate, along with Jonathan Kuminga. Otherwise this is still a deep rotation and coach Steve Kerr is constantly tinkering and making in-game adjustments that have most of the players in tenuous situations, when salary is factored into the mix.

Victor Wembanyama is back after missing two games with an ankle issue and he is expected to see around 30 minutes. There is no salary discount, but if he keeps rattling off 50 fantasy points per game, with gusts into the upper-60s on occasion, his backers will not be sad at all.

Tre Jones should see a few more assist opportunities with his lob partner back on the court and Devin Vassell has three games with 50-plus fantasy points in his last five outings, including two alongside Wembanyama.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Nikola Vucevic looks like someone to target in the sports wagering market. The under for his 17.5 rebounds prop is currently available at odds of +110 on PointsBet and Fanatics and it is at +105 on DraftKings.

By using OddsShopper to do the heavy lifting when researching favorable bets, we can easily take advantage of outliers in a situation such as this, with most of the other popular books in the -110 to -120 range, which is likely paying a 10% penalty for not being a smart shopper!

Per the true odds of -101 (how OddsShopper measures the potential expected ROI of a given wager), this opportunity has a terrific 5.8% positive expected ROI as a function of the inefficient line.

NBA Bet Pro currently has Vucevic projected for 34.7 minutes and 11.83 rebounds. While this is slightly above the 11.5 threshold, keep in mind a range of outcomes is far different than one specific projection.

Over his last 14 games, Vucevic is averaging 36.5 minutes and 11.3 rebounds. In eight (57.2%) of these outings, he has fallen shy of the 12 rebounds needed for this wager to fail. Three times he has landed on 11, with one game of 12, so this bet is likely to go down to the wire. Keep in mind that rookie Dereck Lively II is expected to be available, which puts one more good rebounder into the mix for the Mavericks, along with Luka Doncic and Daniel Gafford.
