NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks

DeMar DeRozan: Bulls vs. Pacers

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 40.37 | FanDuel: 40.26
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 6.8% | FanDuel: 11.4%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $11,300 | FanDuel: $11,700

Tonight with 20 teams comprising the featured-slate player pool, stars and scrubs options will be plentiful. DeMar DeRozan is one of the options situated in the sweet-spot where he is not really a star, but he also does not have the best median projection.

Such is the case for the Chicago Bulls, as DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic and Coby White have been taking turns with big games, mostly depending on the hot-hand.

This has held most of the salaries in check, even though Zach LaVine and Patrick Williams have been on the shelf for quite some time. White is also working his way back from a hip injury, so it stands to reason the universe is aligning in favor of DeRozan, particularly with a great matchup on tap against Indiana. The Bulls are likely to be in one of the final two Play-In Tournament slots, but there is a chance that they could move up to at least hosting the first game. Tonight is a winnable matchup, with the Pacers only favored by a bucket.

DeRozan has 40-plus fantasy points in 10 of his last 16 games, with seven resulting in 49 or more. That is nice upside and with his massive minutes, any efficiency on his voluminous field goal attempts will have him pushing lineups of the tournament leaderboards.

From the Pacers, Pascal Siakam has been posting some excellent stat lines as he becomes more ingrained with his new teammates. Over his last eight games, he is averaging 31.5 minutes and 18.1 field goal attempts with a wild 57.2% success rate. This has worked out to 24.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 combined blocks and steals. With Tyrese Haliburton leading the league 11.2 assists per game, Siakam has been less of a facilitator than in his Toronto days, but more than making up for it with his scoring efficiency.

Dejounte Murray: Hawks vs. Trail Blazers

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 52.41 | FanDuel: 50.33
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 23.1% | FanDuel: 19.5%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $9,800 | FanDuel: $10,200

The only thing keeping Dejounte Murray out of the featured slot is that he is dealing with a sore back, after carrying Atlanta’s playoff hopes while Trae Young is on the mend.

Over his last nine games, the former University of Washington stalwart is averaging 37.8 minutes and 21.7 field goal attempts. This has culminated in 27.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 9.6 assists and 2.7 combined blocks and steals.

Bruno Fernando lost his power forward eligibility on DraftKings, but he still has it on FanDuel. That along with a $4,800 salary has him projecting as one of the three most popular plays on the blue site – pending the expected avalanche of injury news. Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu and Saddiq Bey are all sidelined, so Fernando should see his way into 20 minutes tonight, with another couple as attainable upside potential.

Friends don’t let friends play Vit Krejci, but they do allow them to use him as placeholder value until something else pops up. For those willing to assume a likely ceiling of around 20 fantasy points, he is in play – but there are far better fantasy point per dollar options out there, now that his salary is inching up.

Keep tabs on the Portland injury reports, if Deandre Ayton (elbow) starts he should be considered a full-go. If he is out again, then Duop Reath, Jabari Walker and Toumani Camara will benefit as they man the frontcourt. Dalano Banton an Scoot Henderson are tournament lottery tickets wtih Anfernee Simons and Malcolm Brogdon out, but this duo is about as volatile as it gets.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Josh Hart has been playing some insane minutes, but hopefully the return of Mitchell Robinson makes coach Tom Thibodeau come to his sense. That would make the under on Hart’s 31.5 points + rebounds + assists (PRA) prop become a target. Currently this wager is available for -107 at Unibet.

By using OddsShopper to do the heavy lifting when researching favorable bets, we can quickly spot inefficient lines like this one, and having accounts at multiple sportsbooks allows us to pivot to the best number quickly.

Per the true odds of -107 (how OddsShopper measures the potential expected ROI of a given wager), this opportunity has a terrific 5.6% positive expected ROI as a function of the inefficient line.

NBA Bet Pro currently has Hart projected for 39.4 minutes, 13.02 points, 13.26 rebounds and 5.64 assists for a 31.92 PRA. This projection is just over tonight’s targeted threshold, though still does not account for variable outcomes. The 55% win rate gives us a good indication that on a long time horizon, this is exactly the type of wager we are looking for.

Over the last 12 games, Hart is averaging 42.3 minutes and at some point he is going to wear down. In this timeframe he has posted 11.2 points, 12.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists for a 29.7 PRA. Even if Robinson plays just 10-to-12 minutes, that is another good rebounder and fewer minutes to go around, especially with Isaiah Hartenstein and Precious Achiuwa available as well. New York is favored by a baker’s dozen in Toronto and this should be a laugher – the only worry is that coach Thib’s forgets to give Hart some in-game rest.
