MLB DFS Picks: Spotlight Pitchers
The 33-year-old has been challenging hitters again this season, which has propelled him to the second-most strikeouts per nine innings for his career, with reasonable walks and home runs.
Anaheim won the last two games but only three of the last 11. The team is running out mostly youngsters without many pedigreed prospects. They are firmly on the short list of teams to target relentlessly between now and the end of the season, as long as there is an above-average pitcher facing them.
Playoff dreams left the Pirates in the dust a while back, so the team has been working in more of their youngsters with the September roster expansion. Yes, steady contributors like Bryan Reynolds, Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen, Joey Bart and Rowdy Tellez are still around, but this team is in the bottom third of the league for runs scored, plus at a minimum there will be inexperienced hitters like Nick Yorke and Billy Cooke in the lineup, along with struggling second-year man Jared Triolo.
MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks
Main Slate Primary Target: Milwaukee Brewers
Pfaadt was strong through most of the summer, but over the last month, he has a 9.00 ERA in six starts, spanning 29 innings. The 36 strikeouts are impressive, but even though he has been unlucky, the contact rates are concerning when he isn’t striking out opposing batsmen.
Milwaukee has clinched the postseason, so as long as they are not running out a “hangover” lineup, they are priority plays tonight.
If they do rest some of the regulars, that will provide some discount dandies, but move this stack from a priority to a salary-saving, complementary option.
The Brewers are three games behind Philadelphia for the best record in the National League, and they are two behind the Los Angeles Dodgers to move into an even better homefield advantage situation, both for the League playoffs and the World Series, with the Brew Crew neck and neck with the Yankees and Guardians.
If it is a lineup filled with understudies tonight, then the Astros against LHP Jose Suarez or the Cubs against LHP Patrick Corbin will be the next teams to target as stacks.
Main Slate Secondary Target: New York Mets
Pete Alonso, Mark Vientos, J.D. Martinez and Brandon Nimmo are the core four to target. If Francisco Lindor remains out as expected, then Jesse Winker likely could land in the two-hole, earning him a spot with the key stacking options. The Phillies do have a rested bullpen, with only four relievers seeing action over the last 72 hours. It will be interesting to see how long Walker is allowed to stay in the game if he has an early meltdown.
