MLB DFS Advice: Changing Ownership in Contest Generator

boggsy5668 asked: For the MLB Sims, I was curious on what the difference is between changing the ownership in the Contest Generator for a player, besides just having them in more lineups, versus changing the player’s projected ownership. This question is in relation to specific players pulling more ownership than projected, like Aaron Judge. Would it change the frequency that a player shows up?

dacoltz: For the Sims, changing the “projected ownership” doesn’t affect anything. The projected ownership that we show is more for visual comparison to the Contest Sim in case you want to make changes to it. So if the projected ownership is outdated, etc., it doesn’t affect anything — only the contest pool. If you increase a player in the contest pool, it will generally have the effect of lessening them in your actual selected lineups.

If you think about it as an extreme example, let’s say you were running a 500-lineup contest sim and Judge was in 499 of those lineups. If Judge hits a homer, it is pretty unlikely that the one lineup without him is going to win. But let’s say Judge goes 0-for-4. The other lineup isn’t going to win all the time when he does that, but it’s in pretty good shape and will definitely win more often than 1 out of 500 times, so it is going to say that lineup is really good and most likely that lineup will have the highest ROI of all other lineups as long as it is somewhat sound.

I would say to keep experimenting and you will come across some good results. You would be surprised, but some of the time you can come up with some pretty good results just by doing things differently than other people. I had my most successful NFL season a few years back; the next season I was setting up my files and found a very obvious error that I had created during the setup process the year before. I was very torn on if i should fix that error or if that was the cause of the success. DFS is a tricky but fun game; people not experimenting enough is a big hole in a lot of folks’ games!

The MLB Lineup Generator is a powerful yet user-friendly tool designed to streamline your DFS lineup creation. Simply select your DFS platform and slate, choose your preferred stack type, decide on the ownership level you want (chalky, contrarian, balanced, or all), and lock in any specific players. Once you’ve set your preferences, the Lineup Generator will produce high-ROI lineups and provide insights to guide your next steps.

Take a look at the screenshot below for an example of a relatively chalky lineup we generated for a DraftKings weekday main slate.

MLB DFS Advice: Running Multiple Sims Simultaneously

chlorophyll asked: When you are playing both sites or different contests, do you run both Sims at the same time or one after the other? I’m not sure if they would interfere with each other if running at the same time or not.

dacoltz: My general process depends on the amount of time that I have. Right now you have to run DraftKings and FanDuel lineups sequentially, so I do that. If I have a lot of time, like, say, for football, I might run a second set of simulations specifically for high-stakes contests, then for qualifiers, etc. If I don’t have time, I have a process of sorting out some of the lineups from my single run and putting them into the contests based on some of their metrics from that run like ROI, cash rate, projection, etc.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Strategy: Picking Stacks for Single Entry MLB

JohnB asked: What is the best way to pick what stacks to use in single-entry MLB? Using the Sims, I’ve been crunching a pool and putting the percentage to first and then I favorite 150 and see what team is showing up the most. I use that team in my single entry. Is that a good process?

dacoltz: That sounds like a pretty good process to me. You could also compare that team to the Top Stacks Tool as well and see if it is popular there, but in general, if it is scoring well in the top 150 lineups, then it is probably a pretty solid team to stack!
