5 – Anthony Edwards
Position: PG/SG | Salary: $9,800
Projections: 29.9 Points, 5.6 Rebounds, 5.7 Assists, 2.0 Stocks
The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Chicago Bulls, and with no Donte DiVincenzo and no Julius Randle, this game is set up perfectly for Edwards to take over. I have him in for 36 minutes, and this is his team. He’s going to do a little bit of everything, and no one on that Bulls defense is slowing him down. Throw in the multi-position eligibility, and he looks like an excellent play today.
4 – Trae Young
Position: PG | Salary: $9,600
Projections: 25.1 Points, 3.1 Rebounds, 11.5 Assists, 1.5 Stocks
The Spurs are a fast-paced team, and that might even be amplified now that De’Aaron Fox is in town. San Antonio’s defense is strong when Victor Wembanyama is on the floor, but Young doesn’t have Jalen Johnson right now, so everything offensively is running through him. A high double-double feels like a nightly expectation at this point. If he’s playing 36 minutes in a game with this much pace, I want to get to Young.
3 – Gradey Dick
Position: SG | Salary: $4,200
Projections: 17.0 Points, 3.3 Rebounds, 2.0 Assists, 1.0 Stocks
Now we get to the Toronto Raptors portion of the show. Dick projects for 30 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies, which isn’t an ideal matchup, but with so many injuries in Toronto, he’s in line for a bigger workload. No Immanuel Quickley, no R.J. Barrett, and likely no Jakob Poeltl means there are plenty of opportunities to go around. Dick’s price just isn’t adjusted for these injuries. He should be over $5,000 today, but we’re getting him at a discount. He was already a solid option yesterday when some of those guys were still in the lineup — now that they’re out, he becomes an even stronger play.
2 – Ja’Kobe Walter
Position: SG/SF | Salary: $3,200
Projections: 13.6 Points, 3.6 Rebounds, 2.3 Assists, 1.2 Stocks
Walter got the start yesterday, and I’m assuming he will again today. He’s shooting guard and small forward eligible at just $3,200, which is an absurd price for a starting player. The positional flexibility is key here as it makes it easy to fit him into lineups. Now, if Toronto decides to mix things up and go with Ochai Agbaji or another option in the starting lineup, that could change things a bit. But if Walter gets the start again, he’s simply too good of a value to ignore.
1 – Kelly Olynyk
Position: C | Salary: $3,300
Projections: 12.1 Points, 5.5 Rebounds, 3.9 Assists, 1.5 Stocks
Poeltl left yesterday’s game at halftime, and Olynyk got the start in the second half. I have him projected for 24 minutes today, and even that might not be aggressive enough. Olynyk is an excellent per-minute producer, and there’s even a chance he will play more than I have him projected for. But even if he played just 22 minutes, he’d still be right up there as a top option. This one is simple — if Olynyk starts, he’s the No. 1 play on the slate. If Toronto surprises us and goes with someone like Jonathan Mogbo or Orlando Robinson instead, whoever starts in place of Poeltl becomes the best value play of the night.
