Atlanta Falcons: Can Cousins save everything?

No one would tell you that the Falcons don’t have the pieces in place to have a great offense. The problem the last few years has been untapped potential due to mediocre quarterbacking. Well, now Atlanta has a proven Best Ball stud in Kirk Cousins, so now we get to see if the long-standing hype for Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson has been justified.

Of course, Cousins is no spring chicken in his age-36 season and is coming off an Achilles injury. Before that, though, he played at least 15 games in eight straight seasons and threw for over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in seven of them. In terms of volume production, Cousins has been as steady as they come.

You could also say he’s been a king maker, with Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson all becoming some of the best at their positions with Cousins. That’s what we’re counting on for London and Pitts especially, and Robinson to a lesser degree. London, Pitts, Cousins and Darnell Mooney are all grading out as strong values in our Underdog Best Ball rankings:

  • London: No. 10 Overall, ADP 14.8
  • Pitts: No. 55 Overall, ADP 60.3
  • Cousins: No. 131 Overall, ADP 146.4
  • Mooney: No. 136 Overall, ADP 147.3

Carolina Panthers: Is Bryce Young even passable?

Quite literally nothing encouraging came out of Bryce Young’s rookie season. He was under 60% completion, he only had one more touchdown than he had interceptions, his yards per attempt were a mere 5.5, and the Panthers had little fantasy value outside of Thielen. Young didn’t even contribute much on the ground (253 yards, zero touchdowns).

On the bright side this year, he will have a guy with WR1 potential in Diontae Johnson, forming a solid one-two with Thielen. Rookie Xavier Legette is also there as a first-round pick with good size.

Given how we feel about Young, you might think we are down on the Carolina pass catchers. But we actually like the top 2 at their ADP:

  • Johnson: No. 66 Overall, ADP 72.1
  • Thielen: No. 142 Overall, ADP 160.7

People are sleeping on them because Young looks like a bust (and we rank him almost 30 spots below ADP, by the way). The thing is you have to consider the high volume those two will get from Young, and Thielen quietly had 1,000 yards last year.

New Orleans Saints: Whom to trust after Olave and Kamara?

New Orleans has two legit values in the first handful of rounds, with Chris Olave ranking 4.2 spots ahead of ADP and Alvin Kamara 8.6. After that, though, things are pretty questionable — due in large part to our feelings about Derek Carr.

Rashid Shaheed is the WR2 and has solid upside as a big-play threat. He made some things happen last year, scoring five touchdowns and averaging 15.6 yards per reception, but can Shaheed be reliable without the home run plays? That’s a tough archetype to depend on for a second receiving option.

The steadier guy could be tight end Juwan Johnson, who caught only 37 passes for 368 yards last year but did so in 13 games. There is a bit of upside here since there is so little Saints value between picks 100 and 200. Here is how the mid- to late-round pass catchers look:

  • Shaheed: No. 109 Overall, ADP 103.7
  • Kendre Miller: No. 156 Overall, ADP 146.6
  • Johnson: No. 204 Overall, ADP 203.7
  • A.T. Perry: No. 215 Overall, ADP 215.2
  • Taysom Hill: Not in Top 250, ADP 215.7

Johnson and Perry are going right where they should, while Shaheed, Miller and Hill are a little overvalued. As for Carr, he is way overvalued at an ADP of 198 — we have him No. 218.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Was it a one-year Baker Mayfield wonder?

Not only did Baker Mayfield have a surprisingly good individual season for himself, but he also helped at least five guys become real fantasy assets. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin both had 130-plus targets and 1,000-plus yards, Rachaad White became one of the best three-down backs in the league, and Trey Palmer and Cade Otton also got at least 67 targets. Also, all but Palmer had at least 455 yards receiving.

Now, was that a one-year blip? Mayfield has had trouble putting consecutive good seasons together in his career. However, given Tampa’s ability to keep the team together and add another wide receiver threat in rookie Jalen McMillan, we are actually pretty far ahead of ADP on this whole team:

  • Evans: No. 21 Overall, ADP 23.6
  • White: No. 47 Overall, ADP 63.8
  • Godwin: No. 48 Overall, ADP 59.0
  • Mayfield: No. 148 Overall, ADP 168.8
  • Bucky Irving: No. 170 Overall, ADP 179.2
  • McMillan: No. 178 Overall, ADP 190.8

Otton and Palmer have dropped below ADP for us, but they still could be pretty productive if this offense holds up like it did last year.
