NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks

Dejounte Murray: Atlanta Haws vs. Utah Jazz

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 49.19 | FanDuel: 47.28
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 26.2% | FanDuel: 42.1%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $8,900 | FanDuel: $8,900

Trae Young and Onyeka Okongwu are out with their respective injuries, which means ample usage and minutes are available in the frontcourt and backcourt. Dejounte Murray was sublime against the Orlando Magic on Saturday, posting 25 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and a pair of steals in 38.8 minutes. That gives him three 50 burgers in his last five games, and the tasty treat is on the menu once again tonight. When the former University of Washington stalwart plays alongside Young, he averages a tick shy of 1 fantasy point per minute, and that rate surges to 1.3 per minutes when he is flying solo.

Bogdan Bogdanovic saw a spot start on Saturday, and it would make sense that he remains with the first five while Young is sidelined. Bogdanovic has averaged 35 minutes in his last three starts this month, which is an increase of just over 20% from his standard rotations off the bench. This elevation of opportunities has not yet been factored into his DFS salary.

Jalen Johnson is also an intriguing option, as his skillset is well suited for the free-flowing, frenetic pace that the Jazz will be bringing to this matchup, Over the last 10 games, Utah has the worst defensive efficiency rating at 122.1, and Atlanta is nearly as lax, allowing 119.7 points per 100 possessions in this time frame. Each team is also playing at a top-10 pace during this stretch, leading to a lofty 236.5 projected game total. Johnson has 37 or more fantasy points in six of his last seven games, including five double-doubles, and six of these appearances have resulted in multiple stocks (steals + blocks).

Rookie Taylor Hendricks has started each of the last two games, though the ninth overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft has logged just two fourth quarter minutes. He is at $4,100 on both DraftKings and FanDuel while projecting to be on 20% and 50% of all tournament rosters, respectively.

Collin Sexton continues to start and be productive from a DFS perspective; the only caveat is that he has exceeded 27 minutes only once in his last nine games. Jordan Clarkson is always a tournament target, as is Lauri Markkanen. Finally, Keyonte George still has a little bit of upside at his salary if he remains in the starting lineup.

DeMar DeRozan: Chicago Bulls vs. Detroit Pistons

Stokastic’s Fantasy Point Projections
DraftKings: 39.52 | FanDuel: 39.54
Stokastic’s Rostership Projections
DraftKings: 25.1% | FanDuel: 36.4%
DFS Salary
DraftKings: $7,600 | FanDuel: $7,900

The Chicago rotation has mostly stabilized with Zach LaVine out for the year and Alex Caruso currently healthy. The predictable minutes have led to reasonably consistent salaries, but there are several Bulls who stand out in this above average matchup.

DeMar DeRozan is a steady option who is a core building block with his metronome-like production. If things are going his way, he does have a path to 50 fantasy points, which is intriguing for a small forward.

Ayo Dosunmu has been stellar, with three games of 37-plus fantasy points in his last four starts. He continues to improve as a scorer and as a facilitator, with seven or more assists in the trio of above-average tilts. Alex Caruso rates out best on FanDuel, which awards 3 fantasy points for steals and blocks. Coby White has the edge on DraftKings, where he has eligibility at both guard slots. Nikola Vucevic is now eligible as a power forward on DraftKings, though he is center-only on the blue site.

This is a back-to-back game for the Pistons, who lost a close one to the Knicks 113-111 in New York last night. It looks like everyone is healthy, so other than Cade Cunningham — who has 50-plus fantasy points in two of the last three — or Jalen Duren in tournaments, there is not much to call out from Detroit.

NBA DFS Picks: Key Games

Golden State Warriors at Washington Wizards

Chris Paul is back after missing nearly two months with a left-hand fracture. Prior to his injury, he had worked his way back into the starting lineup, though he may get a few games off the bench as he regains his conditioning. Andrew Wiggins (personal) is away from the team, so Brandon Podziemski is likely to stay in the starting lineup, which should keep him in the 32- to 34-minute range.

Jonathan Kuminga is in play on DraftKings, while it is Klay Thompson who gets the love on FanDuel with a low $5,600 salary. Draymond Green earns a mention for DraftKings, but if the Warriors can take care of business, he is likely to get some in-game rest.

Kyle Kuzma and Tyus Jones are good options across the DFS sites tonight. We need to get updates on Deni Avdija (heel) and Corey Kispert, who was a late scratch after lock due to an illness in the last game. Jordan Poole is likely to be motivated against his former team, and even if he remains in a reserve role, expect him to see north of 30 minutes and a chance to move back in the starting lineup depending on the availability of Avdija and Kispert.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Though Ayo Dosunmu has been improving with additional playing time, he is still someone to target against in the sports wagering market with the under on his 4.5 assists prop, which is currently available at odds of -105 on Hard Rock.

This is a good example that demonstrates the power of letting OddsShopper do the heavy lifting when researching favorable bets.

The next-best odds at the most popular books are in the -120 to -130 range, which is close to a 3% tax for not doing any legwork.

Per the true odds of -118 (how OddsShopper measures the potential expected ROI of a given wager), this opportunity has a solid 5.9% positive expected ROI as a function of the inefficient line.

NBA Bet Pro currently has Dosunmu projected for 35.6 minutes and 4.27 assists. That median projection is just below the 4.5 target, but keep in mind a range of outcomes is far different than one specific projection.

While Dosunmu has topped this milestone in three of his last four games, he has only surpassed it five times over the last 14, so we could be seeing a recent anomaly, rather than a developing trend.
