NFL Playoff Best Ball Strategy Guide

Over the course of the playoffs (Weeks 15 through 17), the San Francisco 49ers lead the pack with an implied total of 26.3 points per game. Following closely are the Buffalo Bills, who are projected to score 25.8 points, and the Cincinnati Bengals, with an implied total of 25.4 points. The Baltimore Ravens are not far behind at 25.2 points, while the Philadelphia Eagles round out the top 5 with a projected 24.5 points.

Conversely, the teams at the bottom of the implied totals over these playoff weeks are the New England Patriots (19 points), Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, (both with totals of 19.5 points), New York Giants (18.7 points) and Carolina Panthers (20 points).

In Week 17, the 49ers and Rams each have totals of 27, with the 49ers facing the Lions and the Rams playing against the Cardinals. The Cincinnati Bengals are projected to score 26.5 points against the Broncos, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are at 25 points in their game against the Titans. The Philadelphia Eagles are fifth with an implied total of 24.75 points against the Cowboys.

On the other hand, for Week 17 the Pittsburgh Steelers are projected to score just 17.75 points against the Chiefs. The Denver Broncos are not far off with an implied total of 18.75 points against the Bengals. The Carolina Panthers have a projected total of 19 points in their game against the Buccaneers, while the New England Patriots are expected to score 19.25 points against the Chargers. Finally, the Raiders have an implied total of 20 points in their matchup with the Saints.

Best Weather Spots

Finding good weather spots is probably the most important aspect of Best Ball playoff planning. We know for a fact that domes produce an average of 4 more points per game than non-dome games and that warm, nice weather produces higher totals than cold, windy, poor weather conditions.

With implied totals, these are mere educated guesses in the summer since we are so far from the end of the season. There are too many variables to predict these accurately.

Teams That Play in a Dome/Warm Weather:

  1. Las Vegas Raiders: 3 dome
  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: 2 warm, 1 dome
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 2 dome, 1 warm

Teams With Poor Playoff Weather Situations:

  1. Browns: 3 cold outdoor games
  2. Steelers: 3 cold outdoor games
  3. Bills: 2 cold (Weeks 16, 17), 1 dome
  4. Bears: 2 cold (Weeks 16/17), 1 dome
  5. Bengals: 2 cold (Weeks 16/17), 1 nice
